I purchased this laptop for the I5 processor - I was tired of waiting for windows to open, videos to load, etc. This computer is faster than many mid range laptops and has some very nice features. As mentioned, the backlit keyboard is a bonus, and although not a requirement of mine, now that I have one, I wouldn't go back. The audio is higher quality that many pricier laptops, as well. 

One of my deal breakers was long battery life and although I liked Dell laptops, I didn't want to have to purchase a special battery at a high price just to stay connected for 4 to 5 hours - the 15z comes standard with a 9 lithium and works great.

I was pleasently surprised by the feel of this keyboard, and wish I had this laptop while in school, would have made typing far easier.

My only con so far is that it runs a bit warm underneath, but is something I can live with.

Lastly, the look is indeed different. Leave it to Dell to make a brown laptop attractive, and they did. It is thin, light looking, and looks like a higher end notebook. I'm extremely pleased I purchased this, one of the better decisions I've made in years.
